I think the Northwest District Network of Churches just had its best weekend ever! I think we engaged with more people over the weekend than on any previous weekend-other than perhaps an Easter weekend. New channels of connection were opened up and a high percentage of unreached people are “tuned in”.
It’s hard to imagine a better scenario for the church.
People have travel restrictions, a strong sense of their need for a supportive community, a need to be more connected to God-other solutions aren’t working and limited activity or recreational options. Very exciting!
Obviously, there are some challenges to overcome. But, as you gather with your team today, remember to view this moment as the opportunity that it is. We will provide you with best practice ideas over the next couple of days...be watching for those.
-Wes Smith (District Superintendent)
The Northwest District is an exciting and large region of The Wesleyan Church! We are composed of 75 churches (and growing!), serving Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
We are made up of church congregations that are quite varied in style, in size, and in setting. Our churches range all the way from a very small rural church, to a church of over 4,400 in a growing city, to a network of Native churches totaling over 6,000. The Northwest District places a high value on a "team spirit" that embraces us all - no matter the size or location of the church! Every church matters! We are passionate about connecting people with Christ - and about helping them grow to be like Him! And, because planting new churches is a very effective way to accomplish this, we are totally passionate about birthing new churches.
The Northwest District of the Wesleyan Church exists for the glory of God, by promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the building of God's kingdom in the Northwest District and the world through:
- Encouraging, serving, and guiding the ministry of local churches;
- Promoting a church planting movement;
- Leading and equipping our pastors for effective ministry.
